Landscape Curbing

Warranty

Your landscape curbing 10 year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.  It will be replaced at no charge if the defect is caused by the materials used or improper installation by our workmen. Our warranty does not cover damage as a result of tree roots, ground movement or soil settlement.  If curbs are against walkways or driveways there is no warranty on the curbing due to the inherent movement of walkways and driveways. To guarantee our decorative concrete curbing from harsh weather, it is suggested that you have your curbing resealed yearly, and pop-ups installed where necessary.

Your new curbing is warranted for 10 years.  It's very important that you take a few steps when your curb is first installed to ensure that it achieves its proper curing time.

1.  Damage to sprinkler lines, telephone lines, cable TV, or other buried items by our equipment or our staff is not our responsibility.  Please inform us before work commences if we may run into these during our installation.

 2.  Keep lawn mowers, children and pets away from the border for at least 24 hours.  The concrete will be "hard" to the touch after 24 hours however it requires a full 28 days to completely cure.  This is especially true if we are experiencing a period of damp or humid weather.  If colored and stamped curbing was installed it's extremely important to remain off of it until sealant is applied, as any little footprint or imprint on the curbing may show up after.

 3.  Sod laying, sprinkler work and landscape work can be started 14 days after installation.  Caution must be taken as shovels, picks and wheelbarrows will damage the curbing.  If you have a landscape contractor working for you, caution him about protecting the curb from damage.  Never allow a lawn tractor, maintenance tractor or truck to run over the curbing.

4.Make sure that sprinkler systems do not come on for 48 hours after completion.  Irrigation, backwash from pools and heavy rain could damage the curbing during the first 24 hours.

 5.  Efflorescence (white powder substance) can appear on occasion and does not look good on curbing.  It is generated from water sprinkling systems and can also appear after a rainstorm.  The intensity of the efflorescence varies depending upon the type (hardness) of your water and the volume of water that gets on the curb.  Check your sprinkler heads while the system is on and try to adjust them to minimize the amount of water spraying directly on the curbing.  If you have just planted sod and are watering more frequently, efflorescence may appear more readily.  Be patient, wait for your lawn to get established, turn the watering off for a few days and clean the border after it dries.  A solution of 50/50 vinegar and water with a light brushing will remove the efflorescence. You may have to do this a few times, eventually, the efflorescence should go away.  Dura Curb includes "Efflorescence Control" in every concrete curbing mix to minimize the chance of efflorescence and keeps the colors looking rich and vibrant.

 6.  Once in a while the curb will look "splotchy" for a few days while curing.  This is normal as concrete cures and is not to be confused with efflorescence.  Concrete is darker in color when first installed and will lighten as it dries.  It will take approximately 28 days to fully cure.

 7. If the curbing becomes damaged we will come back and make the necessary repairs, however, there is a $500.00 minimum charge for this service.  An exact estimate will be prepared after we have had a chance to evaluate the damage.  Repairs are difficult to make in colored concrete.  A perfect color match is nearly impossible to achieve.  If the damage is very minor, it is sometimes advisable to leave it alone because the repair can be more noticeable than the problem.

 8.  Cracking: Concrete curbing, like any other type of concrete, CAN and WILL crack.  We experience very little cracking in our product and every effort is made to minimize it with control joints.  Dura Curb places control joints approximately 3 feet apart to control cracking.  We also include continuous steel cable re-enforcement to prevent heaving, separation and buckling.  If cracking does occur, it normally would be in the control joint.  If cracking occurs out of the control joint, it's covered under warranty, ONLY, if it heaves, separates or buckles.  A warning however:  It is important to note that repairs can be difficult to make in colored concrete. It is nearly impossible to get a perfect color match.  Sometimes the "cure is worse than the ill".  A hairline crack is much less noticeable than a patch or discoloration in the curbing.

 9.  When curbing is installed as a retrofit (grass already in place), there will be a small amount of concrete on the ground between the grass and the curb.  It is very difficult to remove concrete when it is wet. After the 24 hour curing period it can easily be picked up and thrown away. We will do our best to clean up what we can.  Since we have not included a return trip in the price of our curbing to do this, we ask that you take a few minutes to remove any excess concrete. This will allow your grass to grow back against the curb.  You may want to place sand or dirt in this area as well to assist in the re-growth.
